Any attempt I make at conveying the importance of attaching weight to things we say yes or no to; what we agree to do; or what we promise others we’ll do pales in comparison to what the infallible Word of God exhorts us to do.
So, if you’ll join me in reading these poignant reminders and affirmations found in God’s Word:
Ecclesiastes 5:5 says It is better not to promise anything than to promise something and not do it.
Matthew 5:37 says Let your ‘yes’ be yes and your ‘no’ be no…”
It’s pretty straightforward: if we say yes or no and follow through on it, we are likely considered credible and dependable. If we say yes or no and do the opposite, we run the risk of being considered flaky, cavalier or undependable entirely.
So, if I may attempt to add a final thought: I’d much rather you say no and follow through, than say yes and not follow through.
I promise to do the same.
